What is Ghicha Silk?

• Ghicha (also spelled Gicha or Khewa) is drawn from the outer layers or leftover silk cocoons that do not get spun into regular Tussar yarn.

• It is less refined but stronger, more textured, and rustic in appearance.

• Ghicha silk yarns are usually hand-reeled and woven on handlooms, which makes every saree unique.

  • Dry Clean Only—recommended to maintain shine, color, and fabric strength.

  • Store in a cool, dry place—keep away from moisture and sunlight.

  • Use a Muslin Cloth—wrap the saree in a soft muslin cloth to prevent damage.

  • Avoid Hangers—Fold and store flat to protect the silk.

  • Air Occasionally—take it out every 3–4 months and gently air the saree in shade.

  • Keep Away from Perfumes & Deodorants—They may stain or damage the silk.

  • Iron on Low Heat—steam iron preferred; avoid direct high heat.
